Oakland is one of the biggest cities within California. It is home to Mai Tai and Rocky Road. Oakland may have been tagged as a ‘No There There’; however, that is surely not the case anymore.
Tourists traveling to Oakland definitely have a lot to look out for. Strolling through the city’s galleries during first Friday art nights, reaching for the stars at the Chabot Space and Science Center or sipping on a drink while sitting on the deck of Lake Chalet overlooking the view of Lake Merritt are just a few things to do in Oakland. Mosswood Park, Morcom Rose Garden and Joseph Knowland State Arboretum and Park a just a few to mention. Joseph Knowland State Arboretum and Park is actually the home of Oakland Zoo. Oakland Zoo has a land area of about 100 acres which is home to over 400 animals. One more recommended park to visit is Lake Temescal in Temescal Regional Park. This is a very good place to go to when you want to cool off on hot, humid days in Oakland.
If you are more of a night person, then you can’t go wrong with traveling to Oakland either. For the original home of Mai Tai, you are guaranteed a great time in the clubs and bars which are located in downtown Oakland. A few of the most popular places are Luka’s Taproom and Lounge, The Trappist, Mua Lounge, The Ruby Room, Pat’s, Café van Kleef, The Uptown and Heinold’s First and Last Chance.
There are also annual activities and festivals to celebrate too. In August, there is the Lake Fest, Chinatown Street Fest and the Art & Soul Festival. In September, there is the Jazz and Wine Festival, the German Fest and Eat Real Festival. In October, there is the Black Cowboy Fest and Oaktoberfest. In November, they have the Oakland Inspiration Awards and in December they have the Oakland Holiday Parade.
